Dan Green
National Media Relations Manager
Dan has more than 12 years of media experience, mostly serving in public relations capacities at two Chicago-based trade associations. A graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications, Dan started his career as a News Producer at WMBD-TV in Peoria, Ill. before switching sides and using his skills to work with reporters to secure media coverage for IPC (The Institute for Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuits) and later the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). He joined Tech Image in September 2005. Dan also has extensive experience promoting mainframe computing, database administration, RFID, VoIP and network security clients at Tech Image.
What is Your Favorite Success Story?
In 2006, our client, the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), launched a program to help educate, train, certify and provide job placement assistance in the IT industry for military veterans, the disabled, youth at risk and dislocated workers. The program is free for participants, and is sponsored by various CompTIA members. We were tasked with generating promotional coverage for this program, and we were able to secure coverage in various publications, including the New York Times, Marine Corps Times, InformationWeek, Military.com, Mass High Tech, RFDesign and Network World. We were also able to secure an article in Dear Abby, which reaches more than 1,400 publications worldwide. This is a very worthwhile program, and being able to help inform people about CompTIA’s good work in this area is very rewarding to me personally.
What are Your Hobbies & Interests?
I am a long-distance runner, and try to run at least one marathon each year, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for Boston (doubtful). I spend most of my weekends enjoying activities with my wife and two kids. I'm also a die-hard Cubs fan, and enjoy softball, bowling, reading books and watching movies.
What are Your Favorite TV Shows?
"The Simpsons," the best show on TV for the last 19 years (and counting). I also enjoy watching "Smallville" and “The Office." Reaching into the TV history vault, my other favorites include "All in The Family," "The Honeymooners," "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Quantum Leap."
What are some of the Last Good Books You Read?
I stick mostly with non-fiction books, and recently read Jonathan Eig's Opening Day - a great book detailing Jackie Robinson’s first year in Major League Baseball. I also recently read James Swanson’s Manhunt about the search for John Wilkes Booth after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and it is probably the most interesting book I have ever read.
Who are Your Favorite Recording Artists?
I enjoy many different kinds of music, but my favorites are the Beatles (who recorded my favorite song, "She's Leaving Home"). I also enjoy listening to Five for Fighting, Peter Gabriel and Clannad.
Why are You a Good Fit at TI?
In order to be successful in public relations, you have to provide high quality customer service. I consider everyone I work with my customers - including my colleagues, Tech Image's executive team and its clients, and especially the members of the media. You have to be responsive to their needs, and over the past 12 years, I have prided myself on being an asset to all of my customers. Whether you are working with a reporter from The Wall Street Journal or an editor at a company's internal newsletter, my role is to make their jobs easier by providing them the tools they need to get their stories completed on time, while at the same time serving the interests of the client. |
