Technology allows us to stay connected to the latest news and events all day, every day. However, technology also gives people the opportunity to get in touch with us 24/7, no matter if it’s over the phone or through email. Whether on vacation, in business meetings or enjoying the holidays with family, technology has proven that it’s difficult for business professionals to get away from business.
I’ll be the first to admit, it’s difficult NOT responding to an email when you can solve a problem or answer a question in one minute. The Radicati Group estimates the average number of emails received per day is 125 and 41 email messages sent. That’s 166 emails every day. So, even if it only takes one minute to answer an email, that’s still nearly three hours away from family this holiday season or nearly three hours of not sitting by the pool while on vacation.
With that said, here are a few tips to unplug from work this holiday and while on vacation.
1.Turn Email Off on Your Phone – Resist the urge to check it anytime anywhere
2.Check it Once a Day – If you must check email, set a specific time, and check it once.
3.Turn Off Notifications – Don’t let your phone be a constant source of noise.
4.Delegate Responsibilities – The best way to avoid responsibilities catching up with you on vacation is to delegate tasks to someone else that will be present.
5.Set Expectations – It can even be valuable to define “what constitutes an emergency.”
6.Let Accidents Happen – To truly unplug, be willing to let some of the small things slide.
Have a safe and happy holiday season from all of us at Tech Image.
