As a social marketer, Instagram is my second home some weeks. I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks along the way. Here are my top four tricks to help with Instagram engagement:
Link to Other Hashtags or Profiles in Your Bio
Did you know that you can now add clickable text in your bio? So now when you include a # or @ before a word or account, other users will be able to click it to learn or see more!
This is great way for users visiting your page for the first time have the opportunity to explore more content than just what’s on your feed and stories. If your brand has a hashtag, this is the perfect place to display it so users know to associate that hashtag with your brand. This could also be really useful if you’re managing more than one account for your brand, or if you’re running a branded hashtag campaign.
For example, one of our clients, @OLFAcuts, uses the hashtag #OLFAcuts which has over 1,500 tagged posts! Framing the hashtag with a call-to-action like OLFA Cuts does encourages more user-generated content and in turn creating more engagement among your audience!
Plus with the ability to know follow hashtags on Instagram, users can get double of your brand’s content in their feed by just encouraging them to follow your hashtag as well.
Post When Your Audience is Most Active
Knowing when your audience is online and planning posts around that schedule is a great way to hack into their home feed and make sure your content is always seen.
Plus, all the information is already in your Instagram app!
Take a look at your Instagram Insights to learn when the peak times for your audience. Under the Audience tab, you’ll be able to see a chart of your audience’s Instagram engagement and you’ll be able to pinpoint the days or hours that your followers are most active.
Beat the algorithm and get those likes by planning accordingly!
Hide Hashtags in Your Instagram Stories to Maintain Your Aesthetic (But Still Be Searchable!)
Don’t want to clutter your Instagram story images with text and hashtags? Just hide them! Instagram story hashtags are searchable so including them in your story posts is another opportunity to appear on the Explore page and rack up more views.
Hiding hashtags by blending them into the background of your shots. Just select the color tool from the text option and choose a color that matches your Instagram story background. This works especially well if the background is a solid color, or if you’re using an Instagram Stories template.
Reply to Instagram Messages Faster with Quick Replies
If you’re running a business or brand Instagram, you could find that your followers are asking similar questions regularly like “hey, what time do you open?” or “when will giveaway winners be announced?” — and providing timely answers is key to keeping them engaged.
Set up Quick Replies in your profile to respond to frequently asked questions faster.
To set this up, you’ll need to open your profile and tap the button with three lines in the top-right corner of the screen. This will open the sidebar menu where you can access your Instagram settings. From there you’ll go Settings>Business>Quick Replies.
You’ll be able to create keyboard shortcuts to your quick replies as well as the quick reply itself. Tap the “+” button in the top-right corner to create a new quick reply and tap the “Save” button in the top-right corner once you’re done (you can always come back and edit or delete your quick reply later).
When you’re ready to use your quick reply, type the shortcut you created into a message and a blue Quick Replies button should appear in the message box. Tap the button and your saved quick reply will appear!
