PR Hacks: How to Use Feedly to Streamline News Monitoring

We all know that a lot of our time is spent on smartphones and/or tablet devices. Whether it’s during our commute, standing in line for coffee or lounging around on the couch, it’s almost second nature to have our devices glued to our hands.

For someone like myself, who commutes daily and likes to check in on the news regularly throughout the day – I’ve found Feedly.

Feedly is an app, available for Android and iPhone devices, that provides a more personalized approach at keeping you up-to-date with what’s going on in the world. With a combined Twitter-like feed, integrated YouTube subscriptions and more, Feedly is sure to be your next go to app. While Twitter is still used predominately to get news updates, Feedly provides a more extensive breakdown in terms of the articles that are populated for your interests.

Specifically, the keyword alerts option is a great feature for PR pros, allowing you to monitor news about your clients and their competitors through Google Alerts. So, instead of having to check that daily e-mail of yours, it’s all built into this one app.

It’s free to sign up, but there is a “Pro” version for those who are looking for a more business-focused app that allows for sharing between peers. Once you register for an account, you’ll be asked to select your areas of interest (e.g. tech, entertainment, music, etc.). From there, a collection will populate allowing you to select your favorite media outlets, narrowing down the articles that populate.

The app is ideal for any PR pro who needs to be kept up-to-date on trending topics and can help reduce the time spent on Google News searching for client placements and client competitors.
