What is Your Favorite Success Story?
My favorite is having one of my first articles appear on the front cover of the Iowa City Press-Citizen. I was still a college student when I was hired on as a stringer by this highly read newspaper. As one can imagine at that stage, getting to see your byline in print was a pretty neat thing. Every morning before I would go into the newsroom, I would stop by a local gas station to pick up that day’s paper so I could save my articles. It was always two copies: one for me, one for Dad. A week or two of this routine led the gas station attendant asking why I was in every day, at the same time, buying two papers. After explaining, she asked to see what I had in the day’s paper. I picked up the paper getting ready to turn to the Community section when, to my astonishment, I noticed my article was on the front page in the top right hand corner. Being greener than Kermit the Frog at the time, that was a significant moment of professional success and achievement.
What Are Your Hobbies and Interests?
I am both a writer and a rider. In my downtime, I love to write in all different forms, especially creatively. That’s where the writer in me lies. As for the rider, you could say I am both a rider of the waves and the snow. I picked up snowboarding quite a few years ago. Having been born and raised in the Chicago area, I shockingly picked up a passion for surfing that I began pursuing seven years ago. I also enjoy watching and going to Hawkeye and NFL football games, working out, being with friends and family, and spending time with my Yorkie pup, Rebie.
What Are Your Favorite TV Shows?
“Grey’s Anatomy” is the only show that I watch consistently. Aside from that I am a TruTV (formerly Court TV) junkie. I love watching crime shows, such as “Forensic Files” and “The Investigators.”
What are some of the Last Good Books You Read?
I was a latecomer on reading Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but don’t think the movie did it justice. Another great book I recently read is Alice Sebold’s Lovely Bones. My favorite book has always been Wilson Rawl’s “Where the Red Fern Grows."
Who Are Your Favorite Recording Artists?
I like all different styles of music. I enjoy listening to everything from Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee and Led Zeppelin, to Jack Johnson, house music and the current Top 40 Hits. I even enjoy some country music – I suppose that’s the Hawkeye in me.
Why Are You a Good Fit at Tech Image?
When I first came on board in January 2008, I was amazed to see that not a single person at Tech Image had a low level of motivation. I am a highly motivated person and strive for success, so I knew I would be a fit. I also bring with me some experience with new media and social networking. Some of Tech Image’s clients have begun working with new media outlets, such as blogs, and I enjoy being able to share my knowledge.
